Manager, Instructional Design-Family Dollar

Family Dollar Chesapeake, VA (Onsite) Full-Time
The Instructional Design Manager is responsible for identifying, developing and delivering training programs and leading change management processes to drive high levels of performance across Family Dollar divisions
The Instructional Design Manager is a position responsible for developing and executing training programs that support Family Dollar key initiatives. This position will direct the creation and implementation of high quality and high impact learning and development programs within the allocated training budget. This position must also work in close partnership with all divisions to develop and execute comprehensive training programs to achieve key organizational objectives and metrics.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities - Primary responsibilities listed in order of importance
  • Manages Instructional Design function; allocating workload, supervising the quality of work output and providing leadership and direction to the department
  • Develop and maintain course design schedule
  • Demonstrate competence with design, concepts, techniques and processes that support effective adult learning using all environments: print, web-based, classroom, etc.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of learning management systems (administration, tracking, and basic technical requirements)
  • Design and develop content for web-based delivery. Convert source documents, procedures, processes into interactive online learning programs
  • Demonstrate experience in developing paper-based training modules
  • Demonstrate experience in delivering interactive training face-to-face to associates at all levels in the organization
  • Demonstrate process mapping skills by documenting complex work flows or tasks into effective learning aids or procedures.
  • Be pro-active in making recommendations, developing and implementing performance improvement practices
  • Work with Operations, Logistics and other divisions to determine new course needs
    Evaluate and modify existing courses to ensure they continue to meet the training need
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications - Summary of knowledge, experience and education required.
  • Masters Degree in Instructional Design or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in adult learning environment with a proven track record of initiating, researching, planning, and driving the completion of concurrent comprehensive training initiatives
  • Extensive experience with web-based training development tools, Microsoft Office, Project, screen capture tools, illustration/graphic software. Extensive experience with MX Studio (Flash, Dreamweaver, and Fireworks)
  • Must have working knowledge of learning management systems
    Excellent writing, grammar, and editing skills
  • Demonstrate a high level of initiative
  • Must have the ability to manage multiple projects
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and execute multiple projects concurrently
  • Must be able to cope with high stress situations and meet strict deadlines
