Director Finance Strategy

THE OPPORTUNITY
We are looking for a top performer with outstanding skills and credentials to fill our Director, Finance Strategy role. This is a high impact, high visibility position reporting to the VP, Corporate Finance in helping to set and execute the strategic agenda for Dollar Tree.

You will be the leader of our strategy team which advises the company’s Senior Leadership team and propels the company towards its long-term goals by delivering a variety of critical initiatives related to the customer experience, growth, operational efficiency, competitive insights, and future trends. In this role you will manage the transformation engine of the company while keeping your sights into the future to help provide guidance to the strategic vision of the company.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead the team to support strategy initiatives with rigorous analytics, facilitation, hands-on in-store testing of new concepts and opportunities, consumer research, and secondary research
  • Includes understanding/modeling economics, identifying potential risks and challenges for implementation and prioritizing opportunities, including strategy and optimization of capital deployment
  • Make recommendations after summarizing large groups of data to assist business leaders in making decisions
  • Head business relationship with Applied Predictive Technologies (APT) and lead Testing Steering Committee
  • Lead strategic cross functional (or departmental) initiatives across both Dollar Tree and Family Dollar with readouts to senior executives
  • Analyze company financial and operational performance (e.g., drivers of historical performance, trends over time) including administration and coordination of periodic business review meetings
  • Identify, prioritize, and initiate process improvements to increase effectiveness of all functions in the business
  • Assess market characteristics and trends (e.g., market segment sizes, growth rates, market shares of key competitors and how they are changing over time and why, critical recent developments and sources of competitive advantage)
  • Provide business support for Procurement department regarding strategy and execution of purchasing initiatives
  • Help identify and analyze company platforms for growth
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, economics, or related quantitative field
  • 10+ years of experience in financial analysis
  • 5+ years of supervisory experience
  • Excellent written/oral communication and data presentation skills
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization, including Senior executives.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving skills and ability to translate business problems across disciplines into advanced analytic projects with measurable business value
  • Must be an independent thinker with the ability to work under minimal supervision and to thrive in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple projects and tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and grow a team of associates
  • Travel 5-10%
Preferred Qualifications:
  • MBA or Master’s degree in related field
  • Retail experience preferably with a high growth company
  • Strong knowledge of retail industry
  • Experienced with A/B testing practices and modeling
  • Experience with IBM planning analytics
  • Experience with dashboarding tools such as Tableau or Power BI
  • Experience with Lawson GL system
