We are seeking a Manager of Software Engineering for Core Systems to play a key leadership role in defining, managing, planning and executing IT solutions that will enhance and improve our business capabilities. This role works to implement the tactical and strategic initiatives for our business, by delivering capabilities with effective technology solutions
The Manager of Software Engineering – Core Systems acts as a critical liaison between business, technology and support teams, as well as external stakeholders to deliver our business strategy as capabilities through an IT Product-Oriented-Delivery (POD) team framework. This role will lead and manage the quality of the deliverables for their respectively assigned high-performing team(s) comprised of direct and indirect reports.
The Manager of Software Engineering – Core Systems is responsible for overseeing the configuration, integrations and development of systems to deliver capabilities within Dollar Tree. This role is responsible for the delivery of capabilities with architecture, security, compliance, data, quality, support and process methodology consistent with our way of working. This role will advocate and support execution of highly configurable, scalable, flexible, and agile development operations.
This Manager of Software Engineering – Core Systems must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of management both within and outside of the IT department.

Manager of Software Engineering – Core Systems:

Customer Focus & Understanding Our Business
- 5+ years’ experience delivering multiple, large, highly complex system changes, projects & programs with a prominent role in IT or Business with the respective department area of focus (i.e Application Development Manager, Product Manager). This would include both SaaS and customer developed solutions.
- Experience with Finance-Accounting and/or Real Estate Systems desired
- 5+ years’ experience delivering multiple, large, highly complex system changes, projects & programs with a prominent role in IT or Business with the respective department area of focus (i.e Application Development Manager, Product Manager). This would include both SaaS and customer developed solutions.
- 2+ years’ experience managing direct reports
- Develops & maintains a high-level timeline for communication & clear understanding of overall capabilities deliveries in respect to the business roadmap
- Understands the market and can explain the future direction of systems, how that direction will impact the enterprise, and how future and current systems can be exploited for the benefit of the enterprise
- Help identify opportunities for business units to optimize and find efficiencies
- Works on complex issues requiring in-depth knowledge of as-is & to-be technology details, organizational objectives, competing priorities, and translates business requirements into solution / design
- Recommends improvements to the portfolio roadmap, based on experience and acumen, as well as across division/department lines

- Facilitates Demand Management of changes and additions to capabilities
- Anticipates, identifies, mitigates risks/issues & escalates as appropriate to ensure success
- Continuously assesses, re-evaluates priorities; reviews risks & develops contingency plans
- Ensures all appropriate Change Requests are composed & tracked through the Change Approval Board processes
- Identifies necessary resources to meet deliverables & ensures they are utilized efficiently
- Manages multiple, complex and/or large solution delivery initiatives simultaneously

- Ensures effective management of capabilities (as requests or projects) from inception through implementation for a designated team
- Develops & manages team resources, tasks, deliverables, timeline, dependencies, based on capability delivery sprint and/or project plans
- Ensures that all stakeholders are aware of scope and status of solution delivery throughout the solution delivery lifecycle
- Ensures validation of acceptance criteria, addresses retrospective feedback, and successful transitions/change manages solutions to business and IT Support
- Serve on departmental process improvement initiatives

- Maintain and promote a positive rapport with the user community
- Serve as primary liaison with contractors and vendors to ensure effective coordination of tasks among participating team members
- Manage relationships with stakeholders, and key vendors and service providers
- Negotiates with or influences division/department teams to facilitate resolution

- Direct, motivate, delegate and empower staff in the successful performance of their tasks and responsibilities while encouraging innovation
- Promotes team building and skills development of team members
