Paralegal – Real Estate
General Summary:
As part of Legal Real Estate, the Real Estate Paralegal supports Family Dollar’s attorneys and Portfolio Management Team in the management of Family Dollar’s existing and growing portfolio of stores. The Paralegal drafts, negotiates, and manages lease documentation, including lease amendments, renewals and extensions, terminations, and ancillary real estate agreements under the direction of attorneys. In addition, the Paralegal tracks the status of all assigned deals and communicates the status to attorneys, internal departments such as Real Estate and Lease Administration, and landlords.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
Education: Four-year college degree, paralegal certificate or equivalent experience preferred.
Experience:
3 or more years of real estate or other equivalent experience. Proven track record in priority setting and managing multiple tasks with attorney supervision. High attention to detail, strong work ethic and the ability to work independently in a fast paced environment.
Computer Skills:
Intermediate MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel skills.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
- Prepare initial drafts of real estate related documents, including amendments, short form leases, termination agreements, and other documents using existing templates. This includes: (1) reviewing and assimilating information provided by the RE Portfolio Management Team; (2) spotting issues, i.e., identifying missing and ambiguous information and taking appropriate steps to gather the missing information and clarify ambiguities; and (3) drafting the appropriate documents using established templates.
- Communicate with landlords to assist in preparing and completing documents, including exhibits.
- Push the legal documents through review, approval, and signature and track the status of such documents to ensure completion by critical deadlines. Update Family Dollar’s lease management system/software.
- Initiate and pursue through a third party provider and local jurisdictions recording real estate documents nationwide.
- Provide updates and reports on current projects works in progress to attorneys.
- Other job-related duties as assigned.
