Refrigeration/HVAC Project Manager

Dollar Tree Chesapeake, VA (Onsite) Full-Time
Position Summary
The HVAC/R Project Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing capital expenditure (CAPEX) special projects involving HVAC and refrigeration systems across Dollar Tree and Family Dollar locations. This includes overseeing the installation of commercial HVAC, freezers, and coolers in new, retrofit, replacement, expansion, and relocation store projects.



Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage special projects involving HVAC and refrigeration systems—both proactive and reactive—across all store formats.
  • Support the HVAC/R team with day-to-day operational issues and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with Store Planning and Operations to ensure project scopes are clearly defined prior to execution.
  • Communicate detailed scopes of work to contractors and vendors and ensure understanding of project expectations.
  • Provide real-time guidance to contractors during installation to keep projects on track and within standard.
  • Evaluate contractor and vendor performance, and recommend improvements based on project outcomes and lessons learned.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement across HVAC/R initiatives and implement solutions.
  • Draft and distribute construction memos to the field to ensure alignment across teams.
  • Conduct site visits to assess scope, monitor progress, and confirm project completion meets company standards.
  • Review and approve project-related materials, quotes, and invoices.



Minimum Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience in retail construction, project management, or a related field.
  • Solid understanding of the retail construction lifecycle.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to lead cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.



Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical training or hands-on experience in mechanical, electrical, or structural systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree in project management, construction management, engineering, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with store planning, fixturing, operations, or merchandising.
  • Self-starter with a proactive mindset and a passion for innovation.
