Director, Pricing and Analytics

Family Dollar Chesapeake, VA (Onsite) Full-Time


The Director of Pricing and Analytics will be responsible for developing and managing Family Dollar’s pricing strategies across all retail stores and provide actionable insights based on credible business intelligence. Accountable for achieving the required financial returns and improving Family Dollar’s price image. Working with the buyers to define pricing strategies and category-specific pricing rules that cover the entire pricing lifecycle including regular, promotional, and markdown/clearance pricing. Accountable for the creation and dissemination of accurate forecasts that feed into our Financial Plans, Distribution Center Volume Planning for Labor Modeling purposes and Assortment Planning. Driving item profitability by ensuring that Family dollar is achieving the Corporate pricing strategy and Line of Business pricing strategies from an everyday low-price position. Additionally, oversee the creation and maintenance of demand-based store clusters/zones, class roles/segmentation and item attribution for KVI’s, foreground, and background items to help drive customer-centric merchandising philosophy.

Provide direct supervision and leadership to the Pricing, Analytics and Execution team.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
  1. Lead all Pricing Strategy and Operations for a $13 billion dollar Fortune 500 Retailer.
  2. Provide the strategic direction for Family Dollar’s pricing strategy to drive price perception and value.
    • This role will lead a refresh of core pricing principles; Roles, KVIs, competitive sets, product and store zoning architecture for all Lines of Business.
    • Leverage and improve competitive data to help drive pricing decisions to ensure Family Dollar is well positioned in the market place.
    • Partner with pricing vendors to support initiatives, provide insights to Merchandising and incorporate into the pricing decision process.
    • Lead the integration and management of Price Optimization software for base price modeling and markdown optimization as part of the line review process.
    • Collaborate with Merchants to mitigate cost and retail changes to our customers.
    • Drive a culture of test, measure and learn in all pricing initiatives.
  3. Oversee all Pricing Operations for 8,000+ stores.
    • This role will be responsible for the seamless execution of all every day, markdown and promotional pricing events to stores.
    • Collaborate and lead cross-functional Teams to support all initiatives and enhance operational effectiveness; Merchandising, Planning, IT, Visual Merchandising, Store Operations, Marketing, Legal, Strategy and more.
    • Serve as product owner on Pricing and Merchandising IT projects with regards to current and future applications.
  4. Lead the development, engagement, hiring and training for all new team members.
  5. Other duties as assigned

Position Requirements:
  • Broad knowledge of pricing, forecasting, segmentation, cross-functional applications and systems interfaces
  • High energy individual that is comfortable with ambiguity and embraces change
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate teams and influence all levels of the organization
  • Ability to multi-task, work as a team player and build cross-functional relationships.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and experience presenting in large groups
  • General manager mindset with very strong analytical skills and practical experience with merchandising analytics
  • Ability to give attention to detail, clearly establish priorities and operate with a high sense of urgency
  • Statistical/multivariate/modeling experience as well as syndicated volumetric, internal pricing/sales and advertising/marketing data experience is a plus
  • Prior experience with Category Profitability Initiative is a plus
Minimum Requirements:
Education: Advanced degree in Business or Engineering, Mathematics or Economics background a strong plus. Master’s degree preferred.
Experience: 8-10 years of merchandising, supply chain and/or marketing experience and 1-3 years price management experience; consulting experience with a top tier consulting company a plus

Computer Skills: Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint); Micro Strategy, Base SAS, SQL, SAS Forecast Studio. Practical experience with retail price optimization tools a plus.
