Manager of Store Safety

The Opportunity
In this role, you will develop and implement comprehensive safety and health policies and procedures for Company retail stores. The Manager, Store Safety leads a team of EH&S Specialists in safety and health program development, auditing, and training. The Manager, Store Safety also serves as the primary point of contact of the Company with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (“OSHA”) during OSHA inspections and investigations. This role closely partners with Store Operations to further the safety and health program at Company stores. Based at the Store Support Center in Chesapeake, VA, the Manager, Store Safety is expected to travel 20% of the time to support store safety. This position reports to the Director, Environmental, Health and Safety.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Manage team of EH&S Specialists to support the Company’s retail store safety programs.
  • Evaluate store environments against federal, state, and industry-specific environmental and safety and health requirements and guidelines.
  • Develop/update safety and health programs for retail store operations.
  • Develop/update safety and health training documentation for retail store operations.
  • Directly communicate with OSHA, government inspectors, and regulators regarding the Company’s safety and health programs.
  • Stay current and informed regarding trends in OSHA enforcement to serve as the Company’s subject matter expert as it relates to occupational safety and health.
  • Assist with the response to all OSHA citations, inspections, or investigations.
  • Develop and monitor safety and health Key Performance Indicators to ensure proper execution of policies and procedures.
  • Update Senior Leadership on safety and health metrics and programs.
  • Monitor new compliance challenges and keep Store Operations apprised of same.
  • Provide support on store requests for safety and health assistance.
  • Develop and drive safety and health programs to develop a culture of safety in all stores.
  • Develop policies, procedures and a comprehensive implementation strategy for all identified safety and health standards standards that impact store operations.
  • Partner with retail store operations in conducting training and auditing programs concerning store safety and health.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of a comprehensive incident investigation procedure for store operations.
  • Manage and leverage field structure to support store operations in maintaining a safety-first culture, as well as compliance with applicable standards. Improve communication regarding trends and opportunities for a consistent message across the Company.
  • Assist with special projects that impact the success of the Company’s safety and health programs.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
  • 3-5 years’ experience in Asset Protection;, Environmental, Health and Safety; or retail operations.
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination education and experience.
  • Experience in administering programs with regulatory oversight.
  • Experience in managing team of individuals to advance Company goals.
  • Strong people skills; the ability to quickly develop relationships and communicate with multiple internal and external business partners.
  • Analytical thinking and problem solving; able to creatively solve problems, innovative approaches where required with ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented and coordination of multiple priorities in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work flexible schedule.
  • Travel approximately 20%.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards and industry best practices related to health and safety compliance.
  • OSHA 30 Certification
  • Professional certifications, such as GSP, ASP, CSP and/or ARM
