Reporting to the VP, Total Rewards, the Director, Compensation will lead compensation strategy, design, and execution with a strong focus on supporting field-based employees across Dollar Tree/Family Dollar’s 16,000+ stores and 25 Distribution Centers. In partnership with the CPO, HR leaders, Store and DC Operations, and Finance, this role will drive data-informed decision-making and scalable compensation programs aligned to the business strategy. This leader will be recognized as an internal subject matter expert on field pay, including hourly and store leadership compensation, geographic differentials, incentive plan design, and pay transparency.

- Lead a team of compensation professionals in developing, analyzing, and administering field compensation programs that are market-competitive, equitable, and aligned with Dollar Tree’s operational and strategic goals.
- Design and implement base pay structures, incentive programs, and geographic pay differentials that scale across 16,000+ locations and multiple states.
- Partner closely with Store Operations, HR Business Partners, and Finance to align compensation solutions with store-level workforce needs, market dynamics, and budgetary considerations.
- Use deep analytical skills to break down complex compensation data into actionable insights and recommendations; translate these insights to influence business leaders and improve associate outcomes.
- Develop and deliver compensation education and training for field HR teams, regional leaders, and store managers to ensure understanding and consistent application of programs.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, influencing decisions related to labor cost optimization, minimum wage strategy, internal equity, and wage compression.
- Ensure compensation programs are fully compliant with wage and hour laws including FLSA, state-specific minimum wage requirements, and evolving pay transparency laws.
- Lead compensation workstreams for field-related HR initiatives such as large-scale hiring events, labor model changes, market wage studies, and compliance audits.
- Manage multiple high-impact initiatives concurrently, adjusting priorities as business needs evolve.
- Drive continuous process improvement, leveraging technology and data automation to improve efficiency, consistency, and reporting across the field compensation function.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- 10+ years of experience in the design, implementation, and management of compensation programs in a large, multi-site, publicly traded company, with strong experience supporting field operations, hourly workforce, and large-scale geographic expansion (Retail sector preferred).
- Proven expertise in field compensation strategies including incentive plan design, pay progression models, labor market pricing, and geographic differential strategies.
- Experience leading and developing high-performing compensation teams with a focus on field/hybrid models.
- Strong executive presence and ability to present complex compensation data and recommendations clearly and confidently to senior leaders, including the C-suite.
- Advanced proficiency with systems and data tools (e.g., Workday, Excel, PowerPoint, SQL, Varicent).
- Proven ability to manage sensitive information and work effectively in ambiguous, fast-paced environments.
- Experience leading through transformation, system implementations, and change management initiatives; PROSCI or ADKAR certification a plus.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state labor laws related to compensation, including FLSA, pay equity, and wage transparency requirements.
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree or CCP certification preferred.
