Position Summary:
The Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Specialist position supports the business by addressing EEO compliance matters across all lines of business of Family Dollar, including Store Operations, Corporate Office and Supply Chain. This position is responsible for responding to federal, state and local administrative agencies on behalf of the Company to address allegations of discrimination, harassment and retaliation. This position further requires significant subject matter knowledge of federal and state labor and employment laws; along with the ability to successfully interact with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), as well as other federal, state and local government agencies. The position requires the use of strong written and oral communication skills in defending administrative agency complaints; as well as interpersonal and time management skills that enable the individual to work successfully on a broad spectrum of issues and projects.
Principle Duties & Responsibilities:
• Provides persuasive written and verbal responses to administrative charges for submission to the EEOC, DOL and other federal, state and local government agencies.
• Conducts research, investigations, and gathers relevant data responsive to administrative charges.
• Responds to requests for data and reports on trends in EEO-related claims.
• Raises any concerns regarding associate actions or Company practices discovered in the course of handling administrative charges to supervisor and appropriate business partners. Uses care and judgment to ensure fairness, consistency and equity throughout the administrative charge process.
• Represents the Company at federal and state agency proceedings, including but not limited to, fact-finding conferences; onsite visits; witness interviews; mediations and conciliations.
• Resolves administrative charges through negotiated settlement, mediation and/or conciliation when appropriate and applying a cost/benefit analysis.
• Uses available systems to analyze data and produce reports related to administrative charges.
• Identifies trends and provides expertise in addressing EEO-related matters.
• Performs other related duties as required or assigned to meet business demands.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree and degree in Industrial Relations, Human Resources or a related discipline a plus.
• 5 years of direct experience in human resources, employee relations and addressing administrative charges including producing written responses, mediation, and conciliation.
• Knowledge of federal and state employment laws, excellent oral, written and presentation skills as well as the ability to develop productive partnerships with all facets of the operation.
Desired Qualifications:
• SHRM PHR or SPHR is preferred
