Imports Logistics Analyst , Origin

Dollar Tree Chesapeake, VA (Onsite) Full-Time

Summary of Position
The Dollar Tree / Family Dollar Import team manages the movement of all products internationally sourced for delivery to United States and Canada. Logistics Analysts assist in the movement of containerized freight sourced globally for both Dollar Tree and Family Dollar brands. The primary goal of the Import department is to optimize the international and domestic supply chain while ensuring freight is received timely to support sales.
In this role, the Logistics Analyst will focus on Origin Operations, which includes overseeing the delivery of 80,000 containers from multiple countries to ports and rail ramps within United States and Canada. In addition, the Logistics Analyst will be tasked with supporting merchandise objectives to meet sales goals.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Oversee ocean carrier and supplier management invoicing processes for assigned vendors.
  • Visibility reporting, freight invoice validation, claims, load planning, order/booking management, analysis, and implementing value-added import logistics initiatives.
  • Interface with freight forwarders, NVOCC and direct ocean carriers to ensure their service and performance levels are meeting service requirements.
  • Interpret data and analyze trends regarding freight availability, carrier reliability, shipping costs.
  • Confer with Import team to determine ways to optimize service levels, maintain supply-chain efficiency and minimize costs.
  • Recommend improvements to existing processes and procedures.

Specific Tasks
  • Audit and process weekly invoicing from ocean carriers and supplier management vendors.
  • Maintain a clean statement account for external vendors.
  • Coordinate the daily flow of import goods from foreign origins to distribution centers.
  • Control transportation expenses through ensuring proper handling and routing of goods.
  • Track seasonal and promotional merchandise as needed. Provide updates to buyers and ensure origin teams prioritize loading and shipping of these goods.
  • Analyze assigned performance related KPIs to ensure service expectations are met.
  • Meet with stakeholders to address poor performance and implement steps to drive improved efficiencies.
  • Complete other analysis, reporting, projects, and duties as assigned by the Import management team.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications
  • Experience and Education
    • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university and 2 years of related work experience in international supply chain management/logistics.
    • 5+ year’s professional experience in corporate supply chain management/logistics as an alternative to a bachelor’s degree.
  • Computer Skills
    • Must be proficient (advanced preferred) in the use of Microsoft Office, primarily MS Excel.
    • Ability to develop, manipulate, format and share spreadsheets for analysis.
  • Job Related Skills
    • Must be results driven, adaptable, detail oriented and organized.
    • Must exhibit strong problem solving/decision making and time management skills.
    • Demonstrates the ability to analyze data, identify root causes, trends, opportunities, and concerns.
    • Exhibits excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as relationship management.
    • Ability to work independently.
    • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and to meet project deadlines.
