Garnishment Specialist

GARNISHMENT SPECIALIST
Summary of Position
Garnishment Specialists are responsible for the timely and accurate input, payment and reconciliation of deductions and remittances to federal, state, local and commercial agencies for all involuntary wages withholding Orders. Adheres to all legal requirements related to involuntary wage assignments and ensures compliance with state specific and federal statutes.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
• Accurately enters and answers withholding orders for Levies, Garnishments, Child Support and other involuntary wage assignment orders within the regulated time period.
• Strong attention to detail, time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
• Works closely with outside agencies to proactively resolve issues regarding withholding orders.
• Establishes and maintains complete electronic files (scanned) pertaining to all notices of withholding for all employees.
• Requests new vendors as appropriate.
• Assists all customers with garnishment inquiries by telephone and email.
• Process refunds of withholding due to late notification of termination orders.
• Maintains current knowledge of laws and regulations involving involuntary wage assignments for states assigned.
• Responds to wage subpoenas and written discoveries.
• Responsible for adhering to internal controls including SOX compliance.
• Provides support and assists in training new Garnishment associates as requested.
• Provides support to payroll processing and tax specialty areas as needed.
• Assist Garnishment Supervisor and Payroll Director with special projects as requested.
• Ability to partner effectively with garnishment team members and business partners.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Regular attendance as required.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications
• Ability to work in a high volume processing environment.
• Legal knowledge regarding multiple withholding orders.
• Knowledge of deductions and fiscal limitations.
• Ability to compute disposable income and interpret legal withholding orders.
• 1-3 years of garnishment processing experience.
• Multi-state involuntary wage assignment experience
• Ability to communicate professionally, verbally and in writing with customers and agencies.
• Ability to use software including Excel, Microsoft Word, email and comfort with software applications on a PC.
• Strong ethics and ability to keep information confidential.

Desired Qualifications

• Payroll certification (CPP or FPC).
• Large garnishment volume experience a plus
• Lawson/Workday application payroll experience a plus.
• Paralegal experience desired.
